Adults with limited English proficiency make up a significant share of Massachusetts’ workforce, yet too often lack access to training that supports their career goals. Vocational English for Speakers of Other Languages (VESOL) connects language learning with job-specific skills, enabling workers to advance in ways that align with their aspirations. This session explores how SkillWorks is engaging with partners on the English for a Strong Economy coalition to expand access to VESOL as a strategy for workforce equity. Participants will learn what distinguishes VESOL from traditional adult education, examine promising practices, and hear lessons from building a cross-sector coalition to influence policy and increase investment. The session will also offer practical strategies for advancing policy change and expanding access to training that supports immigrant workers’ career mobility.
