Centering Workers in Job Design
Centering Workers in Job Design
Support community colleges and industry leaders to adopt practices within educational and training systems that ensure all students have access to the right information, supports, training, and connections that result in good jobs.
The Challenge
Workplace practices are often created without input from the people most affected by them — the workers themselves.
Many organizations struggle to design jobs, schedules, and advancement opportunities that truly meet both business needs and worker expectations, often resulting in turnover, low engagement, and stalled performance.
As a result, workers have limited influence over the conditions that affect their daily experience, while employers miss opportunities to unlock productivity, loyalty, and innovation.
What We’re Doing
This initiative aims to change that. By engaging workers as partners in reimagining how jobs are structured and supported, the Shift Work Forward and our Network Partners are helping employers adopt human-centered design strategies — from clearer advancement pathways to more flexible schedules and improved communication systems.
The goal is workplaces where business objectives and worker needs are aligned, creating environments where employees can thrive, retention improves, and organizations perform better.
