Caregiving is often overlooked in workforce and economic strategy, yet it functions as essential public health infrastructure. The Community Care Initiative (CCI) reframes caregiving as a driver of economic mobility while advancing California’s Master Plan for Aging. Built from community-driven research with caregivers, care recipients, nurses, and providers across San Francisco, CCI addresses the structural barriers that keep care work low-wage and unstable. Rather than replicating existing systems, it activates workforce partners and community leaders through shared governance and clear pathways into nursing and community health careers. Participants will leave with a research-backed design model and practical implementation insights, along with a clearer understanding of how caregiving can be structured as public health infrastructure within state aging and workforce strategies.
