Today’s careers are shaped less by linear pathways and more by a series of disruptions, transitions, and pivots. Yet the systems meant to support workers along the twisting, winding road haven’t kept up — leaving many to navigate a fragmented, under-resourced landscape on their own. The challenge is especially stark for people in low-wage jobs — nearly half of all US workers — who face the greatest barriers to accessing the information, networks, and supports that make advancement possible. These workers are more likely to be women and people of color, deepening racial and gender inequities.

At a time of rapid labor market change driven by technological shifts, economic uncertainty, and policy volatility, it’s imperative that we adopt a more agile, coordinated approach.

This plenary explores how we can build a modern career navigation system that expands opportunity, stability and mobility, no matter where someone starts or how often their path changes.
