The International Association of Machinists (IAM local 751) created an investment fund to build a workforce ecosystem including on-ramps, registered apprenticeship, and incumbent worker training to support the advanced manufacturing workforce in Washington. IAM is scaling this model nationally addressing three challenges: 1) Closing skills gaps in the manufacturing workforce 2) increasing equity and inclusion from underinvested communities 3) addressing the whole worker providing comprehensive wrap-around services. The fund leverages public and philanthropic investments building a worker centered eco-system with community and tribal partners, colleges, employers, and workforce agencies. This ecosystem is critical to address the rapid technological changes in advanced manufacturing while connecting excluded communities to careers.
